I. Inspect monthly, or after every runoff-producing rainfall event (0.5 inches or
greater in a 24 hour period), whichever comes first.
A. Check the sand filter side-slopes; remove trash, repair eroded areas before
the next rainfall event. .
H. Quarterly
A. Inspect the collection systems (i.e. grassed swales, concrete curb openings)
for proper functioning. Clear accumulated trash from basin grates
and basin bottoms, and check piping for obstructions.
B. Check sand filter inlet pipes for undercutting, replace riprap and repair
broken pipes.
C. Re-seed grassed swales, including the vegetated filter if applicable, twice a
year as necessary. Repair eroded areas immediately.
III. Every 6 months
A. Check filter after rainfall to determine if standing water remains for greater
than 24 hours. If water is not draining completely from the sand filter in
24-hours, remove first 2-3 inches of discolored sand. Replace with new
sand. Sand that has been removed must be dewatered and appropriately
disposed in a landfill. At time that sand is maintained, sediment chamber
should also be pumped and cleaned. This material must be dewatered and
appropriately disposed in a landfill.
IV. General
A. All components of the sand filter system must be kept in good
working order.
I acknowledge and agree by my signature below that I am responsible for the performance
of the above maintenance procedures. I agree to notify DWQ of any problems with the
system or changes in the name of the project, responsible party, or address.
