WBS # 45347.1.4 The North Carolina Department of Transportation is requesting the issuance of a NW 3 permit and corresponding DWQ certification for the replacement of Low Impact Bridge # 20 in Martin County. The bridge is located on SR 1501 approximately 0.40 miles west of the intersection of SR 1500. The bridge spans Sweetwater Creek, which is a tributary to the Roanoke River. Sweetwater Creek is classified by DWQ as class "C" waters. Bridge # 20 is currently a wooden structure with concrete deck that is 137 ft. long by 25 ft. wide. This structure will be removed using NCDOT's guidelines for bridge removal. The proposed bridge will be replaced on its existing alignment. The new bridge structure will be 172' in length by 33' wide and built with precast cored slab concrete deck, concrete piles and concrete end bents. An off- site detour will be utilized during construction. This bridge is following the Low Impact Bridge Process established by FH WA, NCDOT and Regulatory Agencies.
