We propose to replace/extend three (3) pipe culverts on three unnamed tributaries (UT) to a UT to Bull Creek. Total culvert extension will be 38 linear feet (LF) with temporary impervious dikes for 68 LF of dewatering during installation. UT 1 is an approximately 1-foot wide stream with a predominantly rock/gravel/sand substrate. UT 2 is an approximately 2-feet wide stream with a predominantly sand substrate. UT 3 is an approximately 1-foot wide stream with a predominantly sand substrate. UT 3 flows subsurface until it emerges at a point about 3 feet above the inlet of the existing pipe culvert. From the pipe's outlet UT 3 flows along the margin of a 0.005 acre wetland in the corner of a cow pasture before entering a larger UT to Bull Creek. The small wetland will not be impacted. Existing channel morphology will be maintained upstream and downstream of the culverts. The culverts will be placed below existing streambed elevation whenever possible. Riparian vegetation will be reestablished along disturbed areas associated with the culvert extensions. Stormwater will be diverted through grass-lined ditches or vegetated buffers prior to entering streams. No effect on federally listed species (threatened or endangered) or their habitats is anticipated. By copy of this letter, we are asking Ed Ingle, Area Roadside Field Operations Engineer, to comment on the above project. Bull Creek and its unnamed tributaries are classified as Class C. A buffer variance will not be required for the project.
