Army Corps of Engineers Raleigh Regulatory Field Office 3331 Heritage Trade Drive, Suite 105 Wake Forest, NC 27587 Subject: Nationwide Permit 913 SR 1370 (Kirby Mountain Road) Caldwell County, North Carolina Project Number: 11C.014021 (No DWQ Permit Fee Required) Dear Mr. Matthews: Streams running parallel to the subject route are currently eroding the roadway shoulder and creating a safety hazard. As a result, the NC Department of Transportation is scheduled to armor --plate-82-linear-feet-of.Kirby- Creek -(Site-#1)_on the roadway bank only. We will also need to armor plate 112 linear feet of Rush Branch (Site #2) on the roadway bank only. Please note that 155 linear feet of the stream at Site #2 was plated years ago. We just need to add to the existing here due to the ongoing erosive forces of the stream and the close proximity of the roadway. Placing the banks on a 2:1 and seeding is not an option because the stream is too close. In short, this would require a road realignment.
