BOX 1890 WILMINGTON, NORTH CAROLINA 28402-1890 Ann IN REPLY REFER TO April 15, 1993 Regulatory Branch Action ID. 199301804 - General Permit (Action ID. 198200031) Mr. Stephen A. Moore State of North Carolina Department of Transportation Route 1, Box 169C Marion, North Carolina 28752 Dear Mr. Moore: Reference your March 10, 1993 application for Department of the Army authorization to extend/replace three culverts in unnamed tributaries to Second Broad River as part of the paving of S.R. 1148, near Marion, in McDowell County, North Carolina. No wetlands will be impacted by the work. This project has been coordinated with the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission (WRC). On January 1, 1992, we renewed gGnGral permit no. 191-200031, (copy enclosed), that authorizes the placement of fill material associated with the construction, repair, or replacement of bridges across navigable waters and waters of the United States in North Carolina, including cofferdams, abutments, foundation seals, piers, temporary construction and access fills, approach fills, detour fills, and box culvert installation, as part of work conducted by or in full compliance with the standards and specifications of the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT). Your proposed work is authorized provided it is accomplished in strict accordance with the enclosed conditions. Please read the enclosed permit to prevent an unintentional violation of Federal law. As this Department of the Army general permit does not relieve you of the responsibility to obtain any other required approvals, you should contact appropriate State and local agencies before beginning work. Questions or comments may be addressed to Mr. Steve Chapin, Asheville Field Office, Regulatory Branch, telephone (704) 259-0014. Sincerely, G. Wayne Wright Chief, Regulatory Branch Enclosure -2- Copies Furnished (without enclosure): Mr. John Parker North Carolina Department of Environment, Health and Natural Resources Post Office Box 27687 Raleigh, North Carolina 27611-7687 IX/r.
