Director
Upon review of your request for Water Quality Certification
to place fill material in 0.06 acres of wetlands for
bridge replacement, SR 1313 Bridge 18 located at Moyock in
Currituck County, we have determined that the proposed fill can
be covered by General Water Quality Certification No. 2735 issued
May 1, 1992. A copy of the General Certification is attached.
This Certification may be used in qualifying for coverage under
Corps of Engineers' Regional General Permit No. 031.

Dear Sir:

DIVISION OF HIGHWAYS
WILLIAM G. MARLEY, JR., P.E.
STATE HIGHWAY ADMINISTRATOR
SUBJECT: Currituck County, Proposed Replacement of Bridge 18
on SR 1313 over Shingle Landing Creek.
The North Carolina Department of Transportation proposes
to replace bridge 18 on SR 1313 in Currituck County with
three 9511x67" corrugated steel pipe arches, resulting in 0.06
acres of fill in wetlands.
Best management practices will be implemented to attempt
to minimize the amount of wetlands impacted. Due to the
small amount of wetland takings, no active mitigation is
proposed for the acreage filled.
Application is hereby made for the required Department
of the Army permits to undertake the proposed work. We are
of the opinion that the work can be authorized by the "Bridge
General" Permit (198200031). Enclosed you will find a permit
application and a set of permit drawings depicting the
proposed work. By copy of this letter, we are also
requesting issuance of a 401 Water Quality Certification from
the North Carolina Division of Environmental Management. The
North Carolina Division of Coastal Management has indicated
that Coastal Area Management Act jurisdiction does not apply
to this project.
An Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer
If we may be of further assistance, please contact Mr.
Doug Huggett of NCDOT's Environmental Unit at (919) 733-9770.
