Upon review of your request for Water Quality Certification
to place fill material in South Fork Catawba River for bridge
replacement of Bridge 163 at SR1315 located at Iron Station in
Lincoln County, we have determined that the proposed fill can be
covered by General Water Quality Certification No. 2732 issued
May 1, 1992. A copy of the General Certification is attached.
This Certification may be used in qualifying for coverage under
Corps of Engineers' Nationwide Permit No. 14.

SUBJECT: Lincoln County - Replacement of Bridge No. 163 on
SR 1315 near Iron Station
The North Carolina Department of Transportation proposes
to replace the above-referenced structure on existing
alignment, along with associated approach improvements. The
existing bridge will be replaced with three 12' x 7'
reinforced concrete box culverts. Stream relocation will not
be necessary. The proposed work will involve fill in 0.01
acre of wetlands. The bridge is located on a stream with an
average daily flow of 5.7 c.f.s.
It is anticipated that the proposed project may be
authorized under Nationwide Permit #14 for Minor Road
Crossings, 33 CFR 330.5(3). Application is hereby made for a
Department of the Army permit as required for such
activities. A site map is enclosed for your records. By
copy of this letter, we are also requesting 401 Water Quality
Certification by the Division of Environmental Management.
