My name is Gary Simpson and I'm from Ellerbe,NC, I am wanting to build a pond on my
land and have done some research on the requirements for building a pond. I talked with Ken
Avarette of your Fayetteville field office and he instructed me as to what were the restrictions and
requirements of building the pond. I have had the site of the pond checked by the US Army Corps
of Engineers for wetlands, this was done by Mr. Michael Hosey of the Wilmington field office. He
instructed me that the pond I was planning on building has no effect on wetlands, as the only ones
present were bank to bank and were not a problem. I again talked with Ken and he told me that
the maximum height would be 15' and could not be over 10 acre feet of surface area. I have
included all the necessary paperwork that I was told was required by your office to make this
assessment. This is the maximum size that can be built and the drawings included reflect this, as I
will ensure that the requirements are met, the pond may well be smaller than I have planned. The
work is to be done by David Stewart of Ellerbe who has an excellent reputation as a pond builder.
I am told that he does good work and thats why I chose him. I would like for this to be approved
as soon as possible to enable David to begin work soon, any help you could be of in this matter
