Bazemore/Steadman Page 2 9. PROTECT DESCRIPTION 1/29/94 The project site is located at 405 & 407 Shoreline Drive West (NC Hyw. 179), in the Town of Sunset Beach, in Brunswick County. The lots are approximately 140 feet deep and 100 feet wide. The lot elevations average 15-18 feet above mean sea level dropping sharply to the mean high water contour along their southern sides. The shorelines of both lots have been stabilized with vertical wooden bulkheads. There is an existing single-family residence at 405 Shoreline Dr. W. (Bazemore-Lot 19), and construction of the Steadman residence (Lot 18) is planned for the near future. There is a broad expanse of smooth cordgrass marsh (approx. 400 feet wide) between the highgroud property and the open water of the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway. The marsh is predominantly Spartina alterniflora. The AIWW is approximately 580 feet wide in the project area. The waters in the project area are classified SA by the N.C. Division of Environmental Management, and are CLOSED to the harvest of shellfish. The waters are designated as a Primary Nursery Area by the N.C. Division of Marine Fisheries. The applicants propose to construct a pier on the property line between their lots to provide common water access to the AIWW. The pier would be 450 feet long and 6 feet wide. At the terminal end of the pier, a U-shaped walkway (6 ft. wide) would access two covered platforms (12 ft. X 16 ft.) to either side of a double boat lift (24 ft. X 24 ft.). Two floating docks (10 ft. X 12 ft.) are proposed, to either side of the dock platforms. The waterward end of the pier would be approximately 175 feet from near bottom edge of the AIWW channel. Water depth at the end of the proposed structure is 7.8 feet at MLW. 10. ANTICIPATED IMPACTS Provided the pier is constructed with adequate elevation over the marsh vegetation to avoid shading, no significant adverse impacts to the marine resoLirces are expected. The proposed pier would incorporate approximately 1488 square feet of estuarine and public trust waters. Submitted by: EX Brooks Date: 1/31/94 Office: Wilmington Please type or print.
