MILLER BIO REPORT PAGE 2 SITE DESCRIPTION Applicant currently owns a lot in Colington Harbour, Dare County. The 7,775 sq. ft. lot has an existing house and a deteriorated bulkhead. The bulkhead has broken and allowed erosion to wash sand into the canal. Approximately 20 sq. ft. of coastal marsh (10 sq. ft. of Juncus roemerianus and 10 sq. ft. of Scirpus sp.) has become established in this washout. The remainder of the washout is shallow water habitat with no vegetation. The upland portion of the lot is vegetated by yard grasses. Applicant proposes to construct a 60' bulkhead 2' waterward of the deteriorated bulkhead to stabilize the shoreline and to install three mooring pilings 16' offshore and 16' from the riparian property lines. ANTICIPATED IMPACTS This project will result in the filling of 20 sq. ft. of coastal marsh and 290 sq. ft. of shallow water habitat. Some localized short term turbidity will result from this activity. CAMA REVIEW This project is consistent with the transition classification in the Dare County LUP.
