PROJECT SUMMARY: Applicant proposes to bulkhead 75' of shoreline in a straight alignment with adjacent bulkheads in an al where the bulkhead has washed out allowing the shoreline to erode. ANCHOR MARINE CONSTRUCTION (SHEEHAN) BIO REPORT PAGE 2 BIO REPORT John and Nancy Sheehan own an approximate one acre lot at the northern end of Dogwood Trail in Southern Shores on the Currituck Sound, Dare County. The property is wooded, void of any buildings and ranges to 10-12' above mean sea level. The property was bulkheaded some years ago and in the past 12-18 months the bulkhead has given way allowing the shoreline behind it to erode, A pocket of the shoreline' has eroded back approximately 12' from the old bulkhead alignment for a distance of approximately 60' along the shore. This pocket is mainly barren sand with a few sprigs of Spartina patens. This beach area grades quickly up to high ground with myrtles and pines. Anchor Marine Construction Company, the authorized agent for John and Nancy Sheehan, is seeking permission to bulkhead this eroded shoreline in a straight alignment with adjacent bulkheads. This would be in the same alignment as the old bulkhead approximately 12' waterward of MHW.. A total of 75' of the shoreline is proposed to be bulkheaded. _.,___----_.-_____ANTICIPATED- IMPACTS --- _-______.__.__-_--.-._._____---__.__._._.__?._.____..____.______--. Approximately 900 square feet of shallow water habitat will be lost with the proposed bttlkheading. Turbidity levels in the immediate vicinity of the project will be increased, but should be short-termed. CAMA REVIEW The estuarine shoreline AEC is classified as conservation in the Southern Shores LUP. Constraints for projects in this conservation area mirror CAMA guidelines. Submitted by: David R.
