NARRATIVE DESCRIPTION: Coastal Shores Subdivision is located on the north side of Bogue Banks, just east of the Town of Pine Knoll Shores. The project site is listed as Lot 21, Coastal Shores, Lee Court, on Bogue Sound, in Carteret County. This lot is approximately 20,464 sq. ft. in size and a residence has been constructed upon it. The applicant's shoreline is bordered by an approximately 20 to 80 feet of Spartina alterniflora. At present, Mr. Perkins gains boat and water access to the sound via a 100' long pier that transverses a 50' wide fringe of saltmarsh cordgrass. The existing pier is 5' wide and the water depth at the offshore end is no more than 18" at MLW. The applicant proposes to extend the pier an additional 425' long x 4' wide which will terminate in an 'L' shaped head platform measuring 12' wide and 20' long. The estimated water depth at the end of the proposed pier and platform does not exceed -4.0' MLW. Two (2) additional tie-off pilings will be placed parallel and in alignment with the pier and platform but will not extend waterward of the platform. The reason a Major CAMA Permit is required for the proposed pier is because the total length Of the structure (5251) will exceed the maximum length (4251) as allowed by the CAMA General Permit for a pier (7H .1200). 10. ANTICIPATED IMPACTS: Only short term minor bottom disturbance is expected from the installation of an additional 425' ln. ft. of pier. The orientation of the proposed pier is appropriate and respects the 15' wide sideline setback requirements for each of the adjacent landowners. Other piers in the immediate area are equal to or exceed the proposed length of the pier. PREPARED BY: CHARLES O. PIGOTT DATE: SEPTEMBER 27, 1988 Please type or print.
