But we must balance it with infrastructure that allows our communities to survive and thrive. That is what the Atlantic Coast Pipeline will do. The ACP will bring cleaner, affordable American energy to North Carolina, which will mean lower bills for consumers, opportunities for business growth, and economic stabilization in much of our state—and we are eager for it. But that doesn’t mean the ACP isn’t taking every precaution when it comes to environmental safety. The ACP’s stream and wetland crossing techniques and pipeline construction methods meet state and federal requirements designed to protect water quality. In addition, the ACP project team has reviewed each stream crossing to ensure the chosen construction method is appropriate given the site-specific characteristics of that stream. Horizontal directional drilling (HDD) is being proposed in many locations to avoid impacts to major waterbodies. Please do not delay the Atlantic Coast Pipeline. North Carolina needs it. 1 A copy of this letter will be sent to my local, state and federal elected officials.
