Shoreline Stabilization Determination Appeal
Dear Mr. Bowen:
On September 22, 2008, at your request, Ian McMillan and Amy Chapman from the Division of Water Quality
(DWQ) conducted an on-site determination to review the shoreline at the above referenced property for erosion.
DWQ Staff from the Raleigh Regional Office program (Lauren Witherspoon) had previously conducted an on-site
determination of the shoreline in April 2008. In your letter to Cyndi Karoly, Manager of the 401 Oversight/Express
Review Permitting Unit of DWQ, dated August 20, 2008, you requested an appeal of this determination.
At your request, we conducted an appeal of the previous determination as stated above. During our review we
observed that the shoreline was completely vegetated and that the dock and adjacent trees were not being
compromised by the lake.
The DWQ has determined that the shoreline is stabile and that a bulkhead or any other shoreline
stabilization measure is not necessary.
This letter does not approve any activity within Waters of the United States or Waters of the State or within any
riparian buffers. If you have any additional questions or require additional information please call Ian McMillan or
Amy Chapman at [phone]. This determination is subject to review as provided in Articles 3 & 4 of G.S.
