R-73 P02 01 - o tp tt hoA L.- C0,6a„rru.c, This letter is in regard to the public notice # SAW-2007-1949-313 we received earlier this month from the Army Corps of Engineers. This notice sent to us is regarding Orleans Homebuilders and theirWellington Chase subdivision in Kannapolis, NC. As a group of residents whom have this stream running thru their properties we are all very concerned with any changes under considerations to this stream. We understand that most of this study was done during a historical drought. Our concern is compounded by the fact that there numerous large, new residential developments underway near this stream. Most, like the Orleans' Wellington Chase development have cut down 95% of the forest that once covered this acreage. This will dramatically affect the run off and water absorption in this sensitive region.. We are concerned that part of Wellington Chase is built on fragile wetland area, we are concerned for changes in future land use, erosion and flooding down strearn, This stream over the years has deposited a lot of silt which is very unstable soil causing this stream to meander from season to season, by up to 15 feet. We are concerned about pollution as a lot of the street runoff will be going directly into the creek. Additionally there is a substantial wetland restoration project that this stream feeds into. The project is located between Odell elementary and Harris Road Middle, in the Moss Creek subdivision in Concord, NC. Just south by about 1-2 miles from the subdivision, they are building boardwalks, paths and restoring this wetland area in hopes to absorb all the water feeding into the Rocky River. Thank you for your consideration we look forward to hearing from you and working with you to help arrive at a solution that best serves both the community and the wetlands which are vital to our -future, Sincerely, Steven and Olga Fogerty 2310 Jim Johnson Road Concord, NC 28027 Cell 704-236-1991, JUN-30-2008 MON 14:35 TEL:9197336893 NAME:DWO-WETLANDS P. 2
