HomeMy WebLinkAbout20151328 Ver 1_T_E Species Check for 400189_20151216Lancaster, Jamie J From: Sent: To: Cc: Subject: Jamie, Medlin, Kenneth N Thursday, September 04, 2014 4:15 PM Lancaster, Jamie J Gray, Jared S; Frazer, Mary E RE: Div. 7 Express Design Build Bridge Replacement Year 4- Request for Environmental Studies Only one project - 17BP.7.R.87, structure #670073 — had potential T& E aquatic species issues. Although the project is located in Orange County and the Cape Fear shiner is not listed by USFWS as occurring there, Cane Creek is a tributary of the Haw River where the species has been documented. However, the project site is located above a small reservoir (Cane Creek Reservoir) that isolates it from the river and any existing Cape Fear shiner population. Therefore, this project will have No Effect on the species. Dwarf Wedgemussel is listed by USFWS as potentially occurring in Orange County, but only for that portion of the county located in the Neuse River Basin. The project is located within the Cape Fear River Basin and Dwarf Wedgemussel has never been recorded from that river basin. Therefore, completion of this project will have No Effect on this species. Please note that all of the projects on your referenced spreadsheet will need to be evaluated for potential effects on the Northern Long-eared Bat due to its proposed listing effective as early as April 2015. Let me know if you have questions or need any additional information. Due to this, 6 additional bridges have been selected to be included in the Year 4 Express Design Build Bridges for Division 7. Please survey and prepare a survey report if necessary for all aquatic species for the attached list of Bridge Replacement Projects in Division 7. The APE is 300' from each end of the bridge and 75' from the centerline of the roadway. The requests for T&E species, wetland delineation & forms, riparian buffer determination and completion of the data sheets has already been made to Rachelle's group. Please provide this information by September 30, 2014. If this is not feasible, have any questions or need additional information, please let me know. Thanks, Jamie Jamie J. Due to this, 6 additional bridges have been selected to be included in the Year 4 Express Design Build Bridges for Division 7. I would like to request that all environmental studies (i.e. T&E species, wetland delineation and forms, riparian buffer determination, completion of data sheets, etc.) be completed for the attached list of bridges. Attached is an example data sheet with areas highlighted in yellow to be completed. The actual impact will be completed by the Design-Builc Team. The limits of the project are 300 feet from each end of the bridge and 75 feet from each side of the centerline. Per our conversation, we will be holding on-site Field Scoping meetings on either September 17 or 18 and Dave Bailey would like to do the verifications at that time. If possible, please complete your work prior to those meetings and have someone available to attend the meeting. I will notify you as soon as I determine the meeting date. If this is not feasible, have any questions or need additional information, please let me know. Thanks, Jamie Jamie J.
