The purpose of this site meeting was to determine the total length of perennial stream channel impacted by the road crossing installed at this location. The application package submitted on August 17, 20071isted this roadway crossing as 148 linear feet of permanent perennial stream impact. Subsequent measurements by Mr. Cnossen and Mr. Robertson determined the stream impact at this location to be approximately 155 linear feet. This measurement included the culvert, flared end sections and rip-rap dissipater pads, both upstream and downstream of the crossing. In an effort to minimize the amount of impact at this crossing, Mr. Cnossen and Mr. Robertson suggested the following: 1) Remove rip rap dissipater pad (approximately l O linear feet) at downstream end of road crossing; 2) Remove one joint (8 linear feet) of culvert pipe at downstream end of road crossing; Charlotte Office: 236 LePhillip Court, Suite C Concord, NC 28025 Phone: (704) 720-9405 Fax: (704)720-9406 Greensboro Office: 3817-E Lawndale Drive Greensboro, NC 27455 Phone: (336) 540-8234 Fax: (336) 540-8235 3) Replace rip rap dissipater pad (approximately l O linear feet) at downstream end of shortened culvert pipe and road crossing; 4) Remove rip rap dissipater pad (approximately 5 linear feet) at upstream end of road crossing. These modifications at the roadway crossing Impact Area No. 2 will result in a net decrease in stream channel impacts of 13 linear feet. Therefore, total permanent stream channel impacts at Impact Area No. 2 will be 1421inear feet. Please see the attached redesigned Impact Maps for Impact Area No. 2. Additionally, Mr. Cnossen and Mr. Robertson also agreed to do stream and stream bank restoration and stabilization where the rip-rap dissipater pads and culvert pipe section were removed. This plan will be developed by S&EC staff and will be forwarded to you for your Approval at a later date. Mr. McMillan, Ms. Myott and Mr. Gyamfi concurred with this approach during the site visit. Please call if you have any questions or require further explanation. Sincerely, ~.~. Nicole J.
