Subject The replacement of Bridge No. 182 over Chicod Creek on SR 1158 i Beaufort County; D WR project number 13-1230
Dear Mr. Johnson:
The Division of Water Resources has reviewed your submittal for a 401 Water Quality Certification for the aforementioned project.
Review of your application revealed it lacking necessary information required for making an informed permit decision. The permit
application was deficient in the following areas:
Bridge Deck Discharge. A review of the plan sheets shows that s[ormwater is proposed to be discharged into Zone 2 of the
buffer on the north side of the bridge. There appears to be room to move the discharge point outside of the buffer entirety. Please
explain if this is feasible.
Grass Swale. An existing ditch in the southeast quadrant is being rebca[ed. The recommended grass swale length to provide the
required treatment is 430 feet. It is proposed to use 500 linear feet of existing ditch ]ine to meet this requirement. Both front and
back slopes need to be 3:1 or flatter in order to use the existing line far treatment A field review indicated that the existing ditch
line may not meet the 3:1 or flatter slopes as stated. Please verify the slopes of the existing ditch ]ine in question.
Therefore, pursuant to 15A NCAC 2H .0507(a)(5), we will have to place the permit application on hold until we are supplied the
necessary information. You have 21 days to respond in writing with the requested information or notification to this office that the
information is forthcoming. [f, at the end of the 21 days, this office has not received this information in writing, we will assume you
are withdrawing your application and it will be returned. Furthermore, until the information is received by the NC Division of Water
Resources, we request (by copy of this letter) that the US Army Corps of Engineers place the permit application on hold.
If you have any questions or require additional informa[ion, please contact Garcy Ward a[ (252) 948-3922 or garcy.ward@ncdenr.gov.
Sincerely,
