I think the information you have provided is adequate, given that the additional impacts are so miniscule and what you
are seeking is really a modification of a construction technique. You have provided a brief explanation and have included
the revised drawings as well. I wrote a modification for the project when the mass-soil mixing technique was requested,
which I have attached for easy reference. If the conditions contained within the modification (I realize a few conditions
specifically reference the mass-soil mixing, but you are still using a form of concrete so I think they are still applicable)
can be applied to the new technique, then we will not require a new modification. However, if anything should change,
or you feel that you cannot meet the conditions, please contact Garcy Ward for further guidance.

Bill, David, Cathy & Stephen,
I have a permitting question for you for the R-2414 B project (the widening of US 158/NC 34 in Camden
County).
Due to continual rejections of bids by contractors because of the soil stabilization method, NCDOT has
redesigned the stabilization method at the three culvert locations on the project. The Department will no
longer be pursing the "mass soil mixing" option. Instead, the department will be using foamed concrete and
timber piles. Just as with the mass soil mixing, the work area will be contained so no materials enter the
water. This re-design has resulted in "slivers" of changes at two of the sites.
All of the changes are too minor to change the numbers in the impact summary table. The largest change at a
site is <0.01 acre. When comparing the drawings, I cannot find a discernable change at the impact sites. I
have attached the revised drawings to this message for you to view.
Please let me know if you need any additional information (i.e. an official permit modification) or if this email
is sufficient.
