PROJECT SUMMARY: The applicant proposes to remove the existing pier and floating dock and replace with a new pier, two (2) new floating docks and two (2) new boatlifts. y McAdams ,2 PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The project site is located at 76 Pelican Drive, adjacent to "Lee's Cut", located just off of the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway (AIWW), in Wrightsville Beach, New Hanover County. The lot is 70 feet wide and approximately 160 feet in depth from Pelican Drive. The lot averages 8-10 feet above mean sea level and the shoreline is stabilized by a bulkhead. The applicant maintains a single-family residence on property and vegetation consists of lawn grasses and a few live oaks. There is an existing private pier (20' long and 6' wide) on the property and an existing floating dock (20'x 6') located on the north side of the pier termination. The existing pier and floating dock are within the established Wrightsville Beach Pier head Line. The Wrightsville Beach Land Use Plan classifies the waters of Lee's Cut as Conservation, and the adjacent highground in the project area as Developed. The waters in the project area are classified as SB# by the N.C. Division of Water Quality. They are NOT designated as a Primary Nursery Area (PNA) by the N.C. Division of Marine Fisheries, and they are CLOSED to the harvest of shellfish. The applicant proposes to remove the existing pier and floating dock and construct a new pier (20'x 6'), two (2) new floating docks (20'x 6' and 24'x 6') and two (2) new boatlifts (both 12'x 12'). The construction of one (1) of the floating docks (floating dock #1) would extend in the same alignment as the pier and the other section (floating dock #2) would connect at the terminal end of floating dock #l, and extend in a westward direction, perpendicular to floating dock #l. The two proposed boatlifts will be positioned on the north and south sides of floating dock #2. The new construction would incorporate approximately 650 sq. ft. of open waters within Lee's Cut. The proposed reconstruction/addition would add one (1) new boatslip to the two (2) existing docking spaces. ANTICIPATED IMPACTS The proposed floating docks and boatlifts would create an additional 120 square feet of platform/dock area, and 288 sq. ft. of covered bottom, for a total of 408 sq. ft. The total incorporation of estuarine waters and public trust area associated with the private pier, floating docks and boatlifts would be 648 sq. ft.
