Two samples were collected. Sample D1 (untreated water) was collected before the water passed through the treatment system. Sample D3 was collected from the outlet of the treatment system (treated water). As you will see the treated water laboratory results show no presence of the petroleum related compounds in the water. Based on the results and our chlorination of the house piping and water heater there should be no need to continue bottled water serviceat the residence. We had a telephone conversation on September 23, 2013 following the completion of the work by Carbonair. In this conversation you stated you would go to the house and turn the spigots on to see if there was any petroleum odor present in the water. In our conversation you also stated that if you did detected an odor you would immediately make a return call to me. Since I received no return call I assumed you were able to get into the house, turn the wateron, and that there was no odor detected. Additionally, in our telephone conversation last week, there was no mention of any petroleum odor being detected in the water. Therefore, the concern expressed to you by Mr. Wright is based on a belief that there is a problem with the water and not based on a taste or odor issue. Assuming that is the case, I have no alternative but to discontinue the bottled water service. The Department is doing all that it can to provide potable water for the tenant(s). The Department has no plan to remove the POE system at this time but cannot justify providing both bottled water and a whole house POE system. I hope this information is suitable for your needs for discussing the situation with Mr. Wright. The Department would like to make arrangements for Le Bleu to pick up all bottles, empty and full, and the stand in November. Should you have any questions concerning this letter or the State Lead Program’s investigation and monitoring program of the petroleum release, please contact me at (919) 707-8169. Sincerely, Mark Petermann, Hydrogeologist State Trust Fund Branch
