These activities were conducted pursuant to a failed integrity test for (1) spill buckets at this facility. The faulty spill buckets have since been replaced by D&S Equipment Service. On December 23, 2022, Henry Nemargut Engineering Services mobilized personnel to the site to assess the condition of in-situ soils beneath the regular gasoline spill bucket which failed integrity testing. Prior to our arrival, D&S Equipment had cut and removed concrete surfaces which allowed collection of a samples directly beneath the former spill bucket via hand auger at an approximate depth of 2.5’ below ground surface. The samples obtained from beneath the spill bucket was labeled SB and was submitted to RedLab, LLC for analyses according to UVF methodology. The soil sample was obtained as specified in the collection, preservation, and handling section of the specific method. Each container was labeled with sample location, analyses to be performed, time, date, and the sampler's name. They were then placed in a cooler and chilled with ice to approximately 4oC in preparation for transportation to the analytical laboratory utilizing EPA approved chain of custody procedures. The UVF analytical results from the site check sample was above the NCDEQ action level of 50mg/kg for TPH-GRO compounds, with a noted GRO contaminant level of 368 mg/kg. Figure 1 shows the location of the spill bucket site check sample collected at this site, and Appendix A contains a copy of the laboratory analytical report for the spill bucket sample. Based on the results from the laboratory soil analyses, Henry Nemargut Engineering Services recommends that the NCDEQ determine any further action in response to the site check conducted at the regular spill bucket at this site since 2 previous releases have been reported at this facility.
