The purpose of the activities was to obtain current ground water quality data for the site. According to the available infom1ation, three 4,000-gallon gasoline and one 1 ,000-gallon gasoline underground storage tanks (USTs) were removed from the site in September 1992 by Coastal Environmental Services, Inc. (CES). A total of eight monitoring wells (M\V-1 through M\V-8) were installed at the site during previous ground water assessment and corrective action activities. A Notice of Residual Petroleum (NRP) was tiled on the deed of the subject property in January 1007. A copy of the :t\'RP is included as Appendix A. Previous activities \vere conducted by CES. Although Geological Resources, Inc. (GRI) cannot verify the accuracy of information obtained from preYious reports, for the purposes of this report, it is assumed to be correct. A Site ;-.1ap showing the locations of the monitoring wells and the structures on-site has been included as Figure 2. Please refer to previous subminals for further historical infonnation regarding the site. 2.0 FACILITY IXFOR~IA TION • Facility ;\'a me: • Location: • Ground \\'atcr Incident No.: • Facility ID No: • Risk Cla~sification: • Land Usc Classification: • Property Owner: • UST Owner/Oper·ator: • Consultant: • Lahoratory: Red Apple Market #5 US Highv,·ay 158 and Depot Street Jackson, A1orthampton County (Figure 1) 9329 0-026626 1140R Commercial Red Apple Markets. The depths to ground water in the T)1)C II monitoring wells during the June 2012 sampling event ranged from 7.60 to 12.41 feet below the top of well casings. Ground water elevations in the Type II monitoring \vells relative to a temporary benchmark with an assumed datum of 100.00 feet ranged from 88.91 to 91.62 feet. Based on these data, ground water flow was generally tO\vard the north. The average horizontal hydraulic gradient across the site was approximately 0.05 feet per foot. The average vertical hydraulic gradient between paired wells M\V-3 and MW-7 was approximately 0.04 feet per foot downward. A Water Table Surface Map for the June 27, 2012 sampling event has been included as Figure 3. A summary of well construction infonnation including ground water gauging data is presented in Table 1. Ground wutcr samples collected from the monitoring wells during the June 2012 sampling event were submitted for laboratory analyses for volatile organic compounds (VOCs) using EPA Method 6200B and VPH using the MADEP Method. Concentrations of benzene, MTBE and naphthalene that exceeded the maximum allowable concentrations (MACs) specified in TISA NCAC 2L.0202 were reported in the ground water sample collected from MW-3. None of the reported concentrations exceeded the gross contamination levels (GCLs). A Ground Water Quality Map based on data from the June 27, 2012 2 sampling event has been included as Figure 4. A summary of ground water sample analytical results is presented in Table 2. A summary of historical ground water quality data is included. as Appendix B. A complete laboratory report has been included in Appendix C. 4.0 CO:"CLUSIONS AJ>D RECOMMENDATIONS • The average depth to ground water in the monitoring wells in June 2012 was 9.68 feet. Ground water nmv during the sampling event was generally toward the north with an average horizontal hydraulic gradient of approximately 0.05 feet per foot. The average vertical hydraulic gradient was approximately 0.04 feet per foot downward. • Concentrations of benzene, MTBE and naphthalene that exceeded the MACs were reported in the ground water sample collected from ~vf\V-3. N"one of the reponed concentrations exceeded the GCLs. • A Notice of Residual Petroleum for ground water was filed on the deed oft he subject property on January 11, 2007. • Based on this infonnation, the site risk classification should be lowered to low risk. A 0'o Further Action (i\rF A) detennination should be issued for the incident. Public notification and monitoring well abandonment should be completed upon receipt of the NFA letter. 5.0 Lll\IITATIO.l\"S This report has been prepared for the exclusive use of Red Apple }.farkets, Inc. for specific application to the referenced site in ?\1orthampton County, ;...,rorth Carolina. The assessment was conducted based on the scope of work and level of effort desired by the NCDENR and with resources adequate only for that scope of work .. Our findings ba\·e been developed in accordance with generally accepted standards of environmental practices in the State of North Carolina, aYailable infom1ation. and our professional jud&ment. No other warranty is expressed or implied. The data that are presented m this report are indicative of conditions that existed at the precise locations sampled and at the time the samples were collected. In addition, the data obtained from samples would be interpreted as being meaningful with respect to parameters indicated in the laboratory report. No additional infom1ation can logically be inferred from these data. Please note that field data collected prior to the August 2006 sampling event was not obtained under the supervision of GRL Although the ·accuracy of this information cannot be verified. for the purpose of this report GRI asswnes that it is correct. 3 MN 9.96" W Name: JACKSON Date: 07/19/12 Scale: 1 inch = 2,000 ft.
