Incident #21618 Dear Mr. Vestal:
The North Carolina Division of Waste Management conducting an environmental assessment at the subject site. As part of the assessment, samples were collected from water supply wells in the area of the
site on June 20, 2012 for analysis of volatile organic compounds. According to the laboratory, the water sample collected from the supply well at your property located in the area of the site contained bromodichloromethane, chloroform, and dibromochloromethane at concentrations of 20 micrograms per liter (µg/l), 110 µg/l, and 1.9 µg/l, respectively. Your well is identified as WSW1932 on the attached analytical report. The compounds detected in the sample collected from your well are classified as trihalomethanes. The North Carolina water quality standard for total trihalomethanes is 80 µg/l. Trihalomethenes are commonly associated with chlorinated water, and are not related to petroleum hydrocarbons released at the Former Courtney Grocery site, and the source of the compounds present in your well is not known. The DWM recommends you contact the Yadkin County Health Department to discuss the compounds present in your well.
