Dear Mr. Armstrong:
The North Carolina Division of Waste Management is conducting an assessment at the Well’s Grocery Store located at the intersection of Courtney-Huntsville Road and Wyo Roads, Yadkinville, NC. As part of the assessment, a water sample was collected from your supply well on November 16, 2009 for laboratory
analysis of volatile organic compounds. According to the laboratory, 1,1 dichloroethane and 1,1-dichloroethene were present in the sample at concentrations of 0.69 micrograms per liter (µg/l) and 0.84 µg/l, respectively. The North Carolina Subchapter 2L water quality standards for 1,1 dichloroethane and 1,1-
dichloroethene are 6 µg/l, and 7 µg/l, respectively. The compounds detected in the water sample collected from your well were not present in the groundwater samples collected at the Well’s Grocery Store. Therefore, the source of the compounds detected in your well is not known. Your well is denoted as WSW5
