Services were authorized by the North Carolina Environmental Quality (NCDEQ) Task Authorization (TA) #02, approved February 6, 2023, and Contract Number N122019D. The approved scope of services for this Task Authorization included: • Obtain an Access Agreement to sample water supply well WSW-1; • Collect a groundwater sample from water supply well WSW-1 and analyze via Standard Method (SM) 6200B plus ethylene dibromide (EDB), methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE), and diisopropyl ether (DIPE); and • Prepare a letter report documenting the findings. The Gallimore Property site is located at 3542 US Highway 220, Ellerbe, NC (See Figures in Attachment A). CATLIN conducted field activities on April 13, 2023 in accordance with the approved TA. Field notes are documented on a Daily Activities Log, provided in Attachment B. Site photographs are presented in Attachment C. Available water supply well/property owner information is summarized in Table 1 (Attachment D) and the Access Agreement is included as Attachment E. Groundwater Sampling The water supply well WSW-1 identified during CATLIN’s Receptor Survey in February 2021 was found abandoned. The property owner, Mr. Miguel indicated a new irrigation well was installed and indicated the location to CATLIN. The abandoned water supply well location and new May 25, 2023 Page 2 of 2 NCDEQ; 20150_Gallimore Property CATLIN Engineers and Scientists CATLIN Project No. 220236 May 2023 irrigation well locations are illustrated on the attached Figure 2 and labeled “WSW” and “WSW-1”, respectively. The new irrigation well, now identified as WSW-1, was sampled in accordance with NCDEQ guidelines and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 4 Operating Procedures. Prior to obtaining a representative groundwater sample, the well was purged by allowing the spigot to run for approximately 15 minutes. A groundwater sample was collected from a spigot located at the water supply well directly into appropriate laboratory-provided, pre-preserved glassware, labeled, and placed on ice in an insulated cooler. A laboratory-provided trip blank accompanied the sample for the duration of the site activities. The groundwater sample and laboratory-provided trip blank were submitted to Con-Test Analytical Laboratory (Certification NC 652 and NC-DW 25703) in East Longmeadow, Massachusetts, under proper chain of custody (COC) protocol and analyzed per SM 6200B (including EDB, MTBE, and DIPE). The laboratory analytical data and COC are included in Attachment E. Groundwater Sample Results Laboratory analysis detected estimated concentrations (“J”-values) of methylene chloride in both the WSW-1 sample and trip blank sample, indicating that it may be a laboratory artifact. The WSW-1 sample contained a methylene chloride detection of 0.30 micrograms per liter (µg/L), which is below the concentration of 5 µg/L established in the Title 15A of the North Carolina Administrative Code, Subchapter 2L Groundwater Quality Standards (2L GWQS). Laboratory analytical results are summarized in Table 2 (Attachment D). A copy of the complete laboratory report and chain of custody documentation is presented in Attachment F. CATLIN Engineers and Scientists will proceed upon notification of your approval. Should you have any questions or require additional information, please contact us me 910-726-1307. Wide recovery limits established for difficult compound. Wide RPD limits established for difficult compound. #Data exceeded client recommended or regulatory level Percent recoveries and relative percent differences (RPDs) are determined by the software using values in the calculation which have not been rounded. No results have been blank subtracted unless specified in the case narrative section. FLAG/QUALIFIER SUMMARY Detected but below the Reporting Limit (lowest calibration standard); therefore, result is an estimated concentration (CLP J-Flag). J Laboratory fortified blank/laboratory control sample recovery and duplicate recoveries outside of control limits. Data validation is not affected since all results are "not detected" for associated samples in this batch and bias is on the high side.
