The Phase I ESA identified the potential for impact for impact to soil and/or groundwater beneath the site from an undocumented release of petroleum from the underground storage tank (UST) located on the central portion of the site as a recognized environmental condition (REC). Based on the findings of the Phase I ESA, Pilot was requested by Mr. Kye Bunker to provide environmental services associated with the identified UST. 2.0 FIELD ACTIVITIES On November 19,2020,one soil boring (S-1,Drawing 3) was advanced in the likely vicinity of the identified UST at the site. The soil boring was advanced to a depth of approximately 7 feet below ground surface (bgs) using a decontaminated hand auger.Soil sample S-1 was submitted for laboratory analysis. An apparent release was detected in boring S-1; therefore, additional borings were not completed. The presence of a UST could not be confirmed due to site conditions and constraints. Pilot personnel wore a new pair of disposable nitrile gloves during the sampling process. Each container was labeled and placed in a cooler containing ice to maintain the sample at approximately 4Celsius. The soil sample was then transported to Pace National, Inc. (Pace) in Kernersville, North Carolina for analysis. The soil sample was analyzed for diesel range total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH) using EPA Method 8015/3550. A chain of custody was maintained and is included in Appendix A. 3.0 RESULTS 3.1 Soil Sample Laboratory analysis of soil sample S-1 detected diesel range TPH above the laboratory North Carolina Action Level of 100 mg/Kg.A summary table is included as Table 1.The laboratory data sheets are included in Appendix A. Report of Environmental ServicesPilot Project G-6270.1November 25, 2020 4.0 CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS Based on the results of the laboratory analysis, Pilot concludes the following: One heating oil UST was reported to be located at the site.It is not known if the UST remains or has been removed. One soil boring S-1 was advanced in the likely vicinity of the identified UST at the site. The soil boring was advanced to a depth of approximately 7 feet bgs using a decontaminated hand auger. Soil sample S-1 was submitted for laboratory analysis. An apparent release was detected in boring S-1; therefore, additional borings were not completed. Laboratory analysis of soil sample S-1 detected diesel range TPH above the laboratory North Carolina Action Level of 100 mg/Kg. Based on the laboratory results,Pilot recommends that a copy of this report be submitted to the current property owner/responsible party and that they submit a copy of this report to the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (NCDEQ).The UST, if present, should be closed in accordance with the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (NCDEQ) regulations.A Notice of Residual Petroleum (NORP) is required to be filed prior to a property transaction occurring, and in an effort to obtain incident closure. Public notice will also be required to obtain incident closure. 5.0 QUALIFICATIONS OF REPORT The activities and evaluative approaches used in this assessment are consistent with those normally employed in assessment projects of this type. Our evaluation of site conditions has been based on our understanding of the project information and the data obtained during our field activities.
