If previously unknown soil impact is encountered during grading or trenching, excavation will be minimized and proceed only as far as required to complete the task. The contractor should contact the environmental consultant if suspect soils are encountered so that they can be assessed. If the soils are confirmed to be impacted, then procedures for managing impacted soils as described above will be implemented. The DEQ Brownfields manager will be informed of the situation within 48 hours of discovery. If impacted soils are encountered during trenching, appropriate safety measures will be implemented to ensure workers are not adversely impacted. Screening of beathing space air using a properly calibrated PID or a work stoppage may be required based on the impact. PART 2. GROUNDWATER 1) What is the depth to groundwater at the Brownfields Property? 1.39 feet below the top of casing in MW-14 that screens the perched zone. This perched zone may be seasonal and dependent on rainfall. 2) Is groundwater known to be contaminated by ☐onsite ☒offsite ☐both or ☐unknown sources? Describe source(s): During a limited Phase II Assessment prior to the purchase of the property, Tetrachloroethene, trichloroethene, and vinyl chloride exceeded the DEQ 2L Groundwater Quality Standards. Groundwater samples collected from MW-14 during the brownfield assessment indicate Chloroform was the only VOC detected in groundwater at a concentration of 0.79J ug/l (primary) and 0.71J (duplicate). These chloroform concentrations were below the NC DEQ 2L standards, the NC DEQ residential groundwater vapor intrusion screening level, and the non-residential groundwater vapor intrusion screening level. Groundwater analytical results are presented in Table 2 and 5. Groundwater sampling locations are presented on Figure 3 and Figure 4. Semi-Volatile Compounds were not detected in MWW-14 during the brownfield assessment. Lead was detected above the NC DEQ 2L standards in the primary sample collected from MW-14. 3) What is the direction of groundwater flow at the Brownfields Property? Based on the topography of the site, groundwater flow is interpreted to be to the northwest.
