The NCDEQ has reviewed the Brownfields Assessment Work Plan, Former K-Town Furniture,
Revision 1, dated July 20, 2018. The NC DEQ approves the revised work plan with the following
comment regarding soil gas sampling procedures.

·         Prior to attaching the sample container, the vapor probe should be purged by drawing 3.0
volumes through the probe and sampling train. The investigator should use a low purge
rate with a maximum of 200-ml per minute.

On behalf of the City of Kannapolis, please find the attached Brownfields Assessment Work Plan,
Revision 1, for the former K-Town Furniture site (BPN-22031-18-013) located in Kannapolis, North
Carolina. Per comments received on July 27, 2018 for the EMP (Revision 1) and the Draft
Brownfields Assessment Work Plan dated July 11, 2018, the attached work plan revision includes the
requested soil characterization and additional soil vapor sampling on the Site property and the post
grade sampling on the import/fill placement location on the adjacent former Pillowtex Plant 1
Brownfields Property.

As we discussed during our telephone conversation on July 27, we would like to proceed with the
field work associated with the proposed soil characterization and soil vapor sampling at the Site later
this week (Thursday, August 2nd). Therefore, we would appreciate your prompt review and approval
of the work plan. We appreciate your assistance with this project, and the provisions to help
streamline the reporting requirements for the soil characterization sampling.
