We understand that these soils would be used to backfill an excavation for a Brownfield site located at 810 Lufkin Road in Apex, North Carolina. We understand that NC Department of Environmental Quality (NCDEQ) requires potential import soils to be tested prior to use as structural fill soils. The scope of this investigation is based on our conversations with you. Methodoloay Used We collected a total of six soil samples from two potential soil stock piles. Samples S-1 through S-3 were collected at selected locations on the soil stockpile located at the Wake Stone Quarry in Moncure, North Carolina. The soils collected generally consisted of sandy silt and sandy clay with various amounts of gravel. Samples S-4 through S-6 were collected from a soil stock pile located near the intersection of Jenks Road and NC Highway 64 in Apex, North Carolina. We observed dump trucks hauling soils to the stockpile from offsite locations at the time of our sampling. The soils collected generally consisted of silt, sandy silt, and sandy clay. The soil samples were stored in sealed containers, placed on ice, and transported to Pace Analytical Laboratories for testing by EPA Method 8260 for Volatile Organic Compounds, EPA Method 8270 for Semi -Volatile Organic Compounds, and EPA Methods 6061 and 7471 for 8 RCRA Metals. Analytical Test Results The results of our laboratory testing are provided in the attached documents and summarized in the following table: Sample ID: B-1 I B-2 B-3 B-4 B-5 B-6 Arsenic (mg/kg) 7.1 4.2 5.3 1.9 1.8 2 Barium (mg/kg) 22.7 16 25.8 63.5 57.1 66.6 Cadmium (mg/kg) ND ND ND ND ND ND Chromium (mg/kg) 6.3 5.7 6.5 4.9 6.2 9.6 Lead (mg/kg) 10.4 10.9 9.9 7.9 7.3 9 Selenium (mg/kg) 3.4 3.5 3.1 ND ND ND Silver (mg/kg) ND ND ND ND ND ND Mercury (mg/kg) 0.051 0.064 0.033 ND ND ND VOCs (mg/kg) ND ND ND ND ND ND SVOCs (mg/kg) ND ND ND ND ND ND TerraTech Engineers, Inc. Various metals including Arsenic, Barium, Chromium, Lead, Selenium, and Mercury were detected in the soil samples collected at levels below the Industrial/Commercial action levels established in the NC Maximum Soil Contamination Concentration (MSCC) levels established by the NCDEQ. A copy of these guidelines are included in the Appendix. Closure We appreciate the opportunity to provide these soil testing services.
