As a follow up to the update email below, we wanted to make you aware that the removal of the remaining transite in
the central portion of the site is currently underway. Following removal, a confirmation soil sample will be collected for
lab analysis of asbestos. The removed material will be disposed off‐site in accordance with applicable regulations. A
report documenting the additional asbestos removal and confirmation sampling will be provided to the Brownfields
Program following completion. By the way, no asbestos was detected in the two soil samples collected from the
northern areas.
Also, the groundwater sampling has also been completed and an update will be provided soon.
If you have any questions, please let me know.
Thanks,

Subject: REEP‐LRC Continental Project 1 Update ‐ Charlotte
Bill,
Good afternoon. I hope you’re doing well. I just wanted to provide you a quick update on the REEP‐LRC Project 1 site.
Soil and Groundwater Sampling
On February 13, 2018, H&H conducted the confirmation asbestos soil sampling in the central and northern portions of
the site. During sampling in the transite disposal area located in the central portion of the site, additional transite pieces
were identified beneath a shallow layer of topsoil and under leaf layers in the vicinity of the former concrete pad for the
former building. As such, a sample was not collected from this area until additional cleanup is conducted. H&H is
currently working on getting a contractor scheduled to remove the remaining transite in the central portion of the
site. Following removal, H&H will collect a confirmation soil sample in accordance with our approved work plan dated
2/7/18.
Additional ACM was not observed in the northern portions of the site. Therefore, H&H collected the two proposed soil
samples from the northern areas and submitted them for asbestos analysis.
The additional groundwater sampling is currently scheduled for the first week of March, but we have not received final
confirmation of this date from the driller. We will provide you a firm date once it becomes available.
Waste Removal
We are mobilizing to the site tomorrow morning (2/21) to remove the known drum and dig in the vicinity of the GPR
anomaly located in the former disposal area in the southern portion of the site. The work is anticipated to take 2 to 3
days. Following excavation activities, soil samples will be collected in accordance with the approved work plan. Any
material taken off‐site will be disposed in accordance with applicable regulations.
Please feel free to contact John Lopez or me if you have any questions.
Thanks,
3
