I just got a phone message from the DC lobbyist for Environmental
Technologies Unlimited (ETU) of Leland, NC who are interested in the
Warren County landfill cleanup. Henry I've mentioned them to you
previously. I know their DC lobbyist due to separate work they've
done here with Congress and EPA on the Carolina Transformer Superfund
site (also PCBs) in Cumberland County.
They called to let me know that Sen. Rand is apparently planning to
have Eric Halus send a package to NC Senate appropriators urging an
alternative, lower cost technology for detoxifying the Warren County
Landfill than the base catalyzed decomposition (BCD) approach favored
by the consultants to the citizens' group. ETU's specialty is solvent
extraction and disti11ation. They have a TSCA permit and are using
this approach at the Carolina Transformer site. They've told me in
the past that they can do the Warren County cleanup for 'less than
half' that the $25m projected using BCD . I'm sure they're telling
Sen . Rand the same thing.

Just wanted you to have some heads up on this in case you haven't
already heard about it.
