Mal L Lv,o- I GoO., Discussion Wastewater All of the restroom facilities at the USACE Engineering Repair Yard (ERY) 'discharge' into a septic system on site. There is no discharge from this system. Other wastewater from the ERY includes water used for boat washing. Boats are washed using an environmentally friendly cleaner. Other wastewater (from maintenance activities) would be collected with our hazardous waste. Hazardous Waste As indicated the ERY produces/uses several hazardous materials. All Oil, Diesel Fuel, Anti -Freeze, Hydraulic Fluid, Solvent (Dyna Blue), Rags and Paint Thinner are picked up and processed by Nobel Oil Services. These materials are stored in proper containers with additional spill protection devices until retrieved by Nobel Oil Services. Due to the low volume produced/used, pick up times vary and take place less than once per month. Paint is stored in a designated building on site. After use paint is dried in a spill proof container and then properly disposed of. Hazardous Waste Flood Protection As indicated on the FEMA Flood map, the USACE ERY is located within the 100 year Flood Plain. Thus, additional discussion is required regarding protection of hazardous wastes in such an event. The major flood contributor to the ERY is the Atlantic Ocean via the Cape Fear River. A flood event of this magnitude would be caused by the storm surge from a hurricane or an extremely large rain event upstream accompanied by uncommon high tides. In either event, there would be ample warning and time to relocate the hazardous wastes to a safe location. Relocating includes moving the wastes above the 9' expected 100 yr. flood level or scheduling Nobile Oil Services to remove the current waste. Thus, a 100 year flood event would not create any additional concerns regarding hazardous materials. Solvent Plan The only solvent used on site is Dyna -Blue, which is used to clean parts. Once used the solvent and any materials used in cleaning are stored in a proper container inside a spill proof container. These materials are also removed from the site by Nobel Oil Services.
