Eplin, PE 1. Silt fencing below fill slopes should be installed a minimum of 10 feet off the proposed toe of the slope. This will allow room for sediment storage and maintenance access,as well as minimize the potential for damage to the silt fence during fill slope construction. [G.S. 113A-57(3)] 2. Silt fence alone is not adequate.below fill slopes in excess of 10 feet in height(NC Erosion and Sediment Control Planning and Design Manual, Section 6.62). Additional measures are needed. Provide matting for these slopes. An excavated storage area in front of the silt fence outlet should also be provided. At the minimum, this would apply to the northeastern corner of the proposed site. [G.S. 113A-57(3)] 3. A riprap energy dissipation outlet structure for the temporary diversion located adjacent to the existing golf cart path is an insufficient measure—much of the referenced drainage area is located inside the proposed Limits of Disturbance (LOD). An adequate measure should be provided at this location. Adequate measures would include a small sediment trap, or, a small rock dam, or potentially excavated storage upgradient of the discharge structure. 4. Additional silt fence outlets may be needed in low areas—install as needed. 5. Additional measures may be required - The applicant is responsible for the control of sediment on-site. If the approved erosion and sedimentation control measures prove insufficient, the applicant must take those additional steps necessary to stop sediment from leaving this site.
