We placed absorbent socks in the basin around the Stone and waters edge around 2pm today. We also took a water sample to test for oil and grease. The basin drained on its on since it is a Stormwater basin. We only removed the old stone and replaced with new material. The attached photo (IMG_1314) shows the pond at stormwater outfall #1 was recently drained to remove and replace the gravels around the riser pipe. I observed a significant amount of petroleum sheen floating on the remaining water within the pond. I met with the regional supervisor for the stormwater program this morning to discuss the situation. We both agree that it would be prudent to deploy and maintain oil -absorbent booms within the stormwater pond. I will need you to provide a response indicating when the booms will be deployed. I also observed fresh sediment just below the stormwater outfall (see IMG_1310). I will need you to provide a response as to how the pond water was removed and the method of disposal. You can also reach me at (828) 296-4681 (office) or (984) 232-1140 (cell).
