Trench shall be dug when laying pipe and ends plugged when laying is discontinued. Any water from the excavation shall be disposed of in such a manner that the natural drainage of the area shall not be disturbed. 5. Trench backfill is to be free of stories and any foreign material, and shall be placed in six (6) inch layers compacted to 95% standard density as determined by AASHTO Method T-99. 6. Delectable Tem Tape D is to be installed approximately two (2) foot directly overall PVC pipe. 7. The contractor is responsible for locating all underground utilities prior to digging, whether or not they are shown on the plans. Underground utility locations if shown on the plans are based upon the best available information and should be considered only as approximate. 8. In no case shall the project waterline be installed under the travel surface unless otherwise shown on the plans or approved in advance of installation by the Engineer and the Brunswick County Water Department. 9. The minimum depth of bury shall be three (3) feet from the top of pipe unless otherwise noted on the plans. Prior to beginning of construction, the Contractor shall determine from the Owner which portions of the roadways and shoulders may be lowered in the future. At such locations, the waterlines shall be placed such that the future depth of bury shall be at least three (3) feet. 10. All fittings including reducers shall be blocked as specified and as shown on the Detail Sheet and within the Project Specifications, 11. All fire hydrants are to be installed three (3) feet inside the right-of-way line unless otherwise approved by the County and Engineer. Absolutely no work shall be performed on private property beyond any area which easements are to be granted to Brunswick County by the Developer. s. 12. Concrete thrust blocking shall not obstruct weep holes on any fate hydrant assembly, steel casing pipe, or bolts on any fittings. 13. Fire Hydrant Assembly includes: Fire hydrant, simple length of six (6) inch ductile iron pipe (DIP) to cross under ditches (min. 2 feet cover) to within three (3) feet inside right-of-way line, fire hydrant extensions, six (6) inch gate valve and box, and all appurtenances as shown on the Detail Sheet. 14. Blow -off Assembly includes appurtenances as shown on the Detail Sheet (see traffic bearing/non traffic bearing detail). 15. Unless specified on the plans, the Contractor shall determine whether to cross over or under existing culverts and communicate his intent to the Engineer prior to digging. In no case shall minimum depth of bury be less than three (3) feet from top of waterline while maintaining a minimum of one (1) foot separation between culverts and waterline. (See Detail Sheet.) 16. Water in excess of that required to pressure test, flush, chlorinate and refush once shall be paid for by the Contractor. Excess quantities shall be estimated by the Engineer and/or County. 17. The work shall be arranged in a manner that will cause a minimum of disturbance to vehicular and pedestrian traffic. Adequate ingress and egress to both private and public property shall be provided by the Contractor during all stages of construction. Without written approval from the County or utility company, existing services shall not be interrupted by the construction work. Any paved areas utilizing open -cut and patch shall be repaired the same day as construction occurs. Absolutely no open trenches shall be left overnight. 18. The Contractor shall contact the Brunswick County Water Department (910-253-4304) and the Engineer (910-754-6324) a minimum of five (5) working days prior to the beginning of construction. 19. The Contractor shall keep the Engineer informed relative to the progress off construction. The Engineer shall observe construction activities as required by North Carolina General Statutes 130A- 317. Failure of the Contractor to keep the Engineer informed may require uncovering of work to verify compliance with plans and specifications. Any cost associated with uncovering work and/or verifying compliance shall be borne by the contractor. 20.
