Good morning Mr. Valentine, It is likely that some of the cooling water did reach waters of the state, as it flowed to swale and bioretention cell. There was some water that discharged from Outfall #1. A rain event would likely carry any of the water that did not evaporate to waters of the state. CAUTION: External email. Do not click links or open attachments unless you verify. Send all suspicious email as an attachment to Report Spam. Good afternoon Mr. Valentine, I called into the regional office this afternoon around 4:OOPM to report a discharge from our cooling tower. I spoke with Mitch Hayes, and he indicated that he would enter the incident into your system. However, he suggested that I should contact you to determine whether or not I will need to submit a written report. In summary, a pipe in our non -contact process cooling loop began leaking late last night. The leaking water was pouring down on one of our electrical control panels, which raised an immediate concern with the safety of our employees. The location of the leak made it difficult for our Maintenance staff to isolate the leak. Therefore, they decided to shut down the pumps to our cooling tower to stop the flow of water through the cooling loop. When they shut down the recirculation pumps they did not realize that the city make-up water would continue filling the loop, and as a result they backed up the cooling tower to the point in which it overflowed. Our cooling water is non -contact cooling water that is treated with a corrosion inhibitor at a concentration of 25ppm according to Chem Treat, Inc., the company that treats our cooling water. Typically, we run approximately 3,000 gallons/day through the cooling tower. It is anticipated that the cooling tower pumps were shut off for a period of 7 hour. Therefore, we believe that it is possible that we could have discharged 800 to 900 gallons of cooling water to our Outfall #1 through our storm drains. Outfall #1 discharges to an unnamed tributary to Northeast Creek. The corrosion inhibitor that is used to treat our cooling water is Chem Treat CL4132. I have attached a copy of the SIDS for this product. Please let me know if any additional information or reports are needed. My contact information can be found below.
