N 69003,�6 121' LANDSCAPE MANAGEMENT 1. GENERAL A. Proper License 1. Applications of herbicides, insecticides and other chemicals will be applied under the direction of a person licensed by the state of North Carolina to apply such chemicals. The License of the applicator shall be in good standing and valid. A copy of the Applicators License or Licenses Number shall be presented to the Owner at the time the contract is executed. If. PROVISIONS A. All included trees, shrubs and hedging shall receive no less than the following: 1. Pruning a) Shrubs and trees will be pruned once during the first year of warranty by the Contractor who installed them. The Landscape Contractor and Landscape Architect shall mutually decide when this shall occur. b) All pruning of woody plants shall be done in accordance with Pruning Standards for Shade Trees by the National Arborists Association. c) Pruning schedules shall be dictated by the plants' bloom time so as not, to affect the flowering performance of the plant. d) Tree pruning shall include work that is necessary to maintain the tree's normal growth pattern, removal of dead or dying portions, and removal of undesirable suckers or water sprouts. e) Shrub pruning (except in the case of formal hedges) shall include workthat is necessary to maintain the shrub" natural shape. f) Hedges shall be maintained at the height decided upon by the Landscape Architect at the time of final acceptance. 2. Fertilization a) Tree fertilization -newly installed trees shall be fertilized by granular surlece application at a rate of 2 lbs. N/1000 square feet/year, once in late February. The fertilizer shall be a complete formulafion with a ratio similar to 10-8-6, with 50% slow release nitrogen. Those that occur in shrub beds may be fertilized on the same schedule as the shrubs. Broadcast fertilizer in an area two times as wide as the original root ball. b) Shrubs shall be fertilized once between March 1 and April 1. Surface application of 2 lbs. N/1000 square feet using a complete fertilizer with a ratio similar to 10-" with 50% slow release nitrogen. 3. Mulching a) All mulched areas shall be checked periodically and are to be re -mulched so that they contain a depth of two to three inches throughout the warranty period. Mulch used shall equal that which was supplied during installation of the plants. Delivery, storage, and protection of plant mate(ials. 4. Weeding a) Weeding of mulch beds will be scheduled throughout the year in order o keep the planting areas free of weeds. All the beds and mulched areas shall be maintained in a crisp, clean condition. b) The Owner or Owner's representative and the Contractor will decide upon the time of weeding. However, the number of weedings shall not exceed six during the one year period. 5. Mowing a) Mowing and turf management is the responsibility of the Owner. 6. Use of Chemicals a) Use of pre -emergent and post -emergent herbicides may be applied to tads to control weeds provided the Maintenance Contractor follows manufacturer's recommendations and no desired plant fife in injured. b) The Contractor guarantees that any of the used herbicides will not dam hae or harm plant life of desired plants permanently. If damage does occur, the Contractor will take full responsibility for this damage. c) Application of all herbicides will be by or under the supervision of a person licensed by the State of North Carolina to apply herbicides. The license of the Applicator shall be in good standing and valid. A copy of the Applicator's license of license number shall be presented to the Owner ilt the time the Contract is executed. 7. Watering a) All non -irrigated plantings will be watered by the landscape Contractor. b) Water shall be supplied by the Landscape Contractor and be free from pit, acid, alkali, salt, and other substances harmful to the growth of plants. c) Watering Schedule (1) Certain soil types and other factors (percolation, tree species, drought, etc.) may make it necessary to adjust the watering schedule. The soil around the installed plants should be probed regularly to determine the moisture content. (2) Watering requirements during the initial shock period (installation period), which is the first thirty days after planting, will be as needed. The following schedule serves as the minimum requirement: (a) Plants transplanted between September 1 hand April 30 (i) Every two days for four weeks. (ii) Twice per week for four weeks. (b) Watering requirements during the establishment period (warranty period), which is after the first thirty days during temperate weather conditions (temperature under 90 degrees with regular rain) shall be as needed. The following schedule serves as the minimum requirement: (i) May 15 through October 31-every two (2) weeks. (ii) November 1 through May 14-every three (1) weeks. (c) Watering requirements during the establishment period during high heat and/or drought conditions shall be as needed. The following schedule serves as the minimum requirement: (i) May 15 through October 31 one every seven- (7) days. (ii) November 1 through May 14-every one (11 to two (2) weeks. (it) Watering requirements for plants located cut slopes and fill slopes may require more frequent watering. The soil around the installed plants should be probed every two (2) weeks to determine the moisture content. d) Watering Execution (1) Apply water only by open-end hose at a low pressure to avoid air pockets and injury to the plant roots and to avoid erosion. (2) Sufficient watering is achieved by filling the water saucer twice per application per tree and per shrub. 8. Warranty Reports a) The Contractor is to submit to the Owners representative monthly written reports. This reporting is to include scheduled waterings as per the planting specification, any actions taken, any services performed, any incident of insect infestation or disease, and note any damage due to other causes such as vehicular damage. b) Monthly warranty reports are to be submitted within seven (7) days of the first (1st) day of the month.
