Inspection Summary
On June 4, 2020 the American Zinc Products facility was inspected in response to a spill report received by the Division of
Energy, Mineral and Land Resources (DEMLR) on June 3, 2020. 1 met with Charles Howell and Kobus deWet on site and
was accompanied by Jeff Menzel with the Division of Waste Management
The Division is requesting that the following information be submitted to the DEMLR Asheville Regional office as soon as
available.
1) Afull report of the incident, including a summary of the spill and responsive actions taken; including a summary of all
cleanup and removal efforts.
2) Please include screen shots or a digital copy of the video used to determine the duration of the spill.
3) A summary of all monitoring conducted in response to the spill and a description of how the pipe used to drain the
basement will be drained and cleared of material.
The permittee is directed to not open the gate valve or allow any accumulated material to discharge from the stormwater
basin adjacent to the Broad River until a representative from DEMLR is able to confirm that the basin has been cleaned out,
and that all material has been removed.
