Rivenbark, Sr. Barbour Boat Works, Inc. P.O. Box 1069 New Bern, NC 28563 Dear Mr. Rivenbark: OCT 0 9 1995 IX B. M. l Subject: NPDES Permit # NCG190006 Barbour Boat Works Application Return Craven County On March 3, 1995 the Division of Environmental Management received your application materials for coverage under a general permit for stormwater discharges from Barbour Boat Works in New Bern North Carolina. A site visit conducted by Aisha Lau, Robert Tankard, and Deborah Sawyer on June 1,1995 showed thu'- there is no point source discharge from your facility because all of the stormwater from the site flows into the Intracoastal Waterway via sheet flow. Because there is no stormwater point discharge from your facility it is exempt from the stormwater permit requirements. The Division is therefore returning your application. Your application fee for this facility ($400.00) will be refunded and sent under a separate cover. If you have any questions concerning this matter please contact Aisha Lau at (919) 733-5083. Pre- existing health conditions may be aggravated. The product as shipped does not pose any inhalation health hazard because it contains essentially no particles in the respirable size range. During shipping, handling, or use, however, the particles may be broken down to the respiratory size range that may be inhaled. The typical free silica content of the product is less than 0.1 percent. This material should be treated as an inert particulate and appropriate safety precautions observed. The use of the material in enclosed areas may cause over -exposure to some trace chemical ingredients and appropriate precautions should be used. Emergency and First Aid Procedures: Eye Exposure: If particulate gets into the eyes, wash eyes immediately with large amounts of water, lifting the upper and lower eyelids occasionally. If irritation is present after washing, get medical attention. Inhalation: If a person is affected by particulate matter, move the person to a fresh air source. Skin Contact: If skin contact causes irritation, wash with soap and water. Oral Intake: If oral intake occurs, wash mouth with water. SECTION VII: PRECAUTIONS FOR SAFE HANDLING AND USE No special. precautions are necessary if the material is released or spilled. Uncontaminated product may be swept up and reused or disposed of as an inert material in an appropriate solid waste landfill in accordance with all federal, state, and local regulations. If the material is contaminated, perform appropriate tests to determine the acceptable disposal method in accordance with all federal, state, and local regulations. Product should be stored dry and free of any contamination to ensure free flow. Respirable particulate matter may be generated during pressure abrasive cleaning operations. -3- 1 FOSTER-DIXIRNH SHND #2 TEL No.1-804-543-0557 Oct b,94 lti;uy No.ui4 r.uD 14935001.=d (LCH) SECTION VIII: CONTROL MEASURES Generally Applicable Control Measures: Good general ventilation should be provided to keep the concentration of any inert particulates below the cited exposure limits. Personal Protective Equipment: In the event exposure limits are likely to be exceeded, use an OSHA, NIOSH, or MSHA approved respirator. If the material is used in a blast cleaning operation, the use of leather gloves, a NIOSH/OSHA approved Type C supplied -air respirator with full face piece operated in pressure -demand or other positive pressure or continuous - flow mode and an auxiliary self-contained breathing apparatus operated in pressure -demand or other positive pressure mode, and hearing protection are recommended.
