SPECIAL CONDITIONS FOR SHALLOW
WATER AND SHALLOW LAND PLANTINGS
Landscape Contractor to:
1. Coordinate with General Contractor on stormwater planting scope, schedule
and requirements. It is recommended this area to be installed at the end of
the project after the site has been stabilized.
2. Provide a soils report to the GC and Landscape Architect evaluating soil pH,
texture, nutrient content and composition is to be provided and included in a
stormwater management plan to verify treatment capacity of the soil mix.
3. The amended soil pH should be between 4.5 and 7.0.
4. Amend soils with 1 inch of well -aged compost incorporated into the soil by
scarifying, tilling and/or core aeration a depth of 3-6 inches. Compost used
should meet specifications for Grade A compost quality.
5. The soil mix must be uniform and free of stones, stumps, roots or similar
material. If any rutting around side slopes occurs, the ruts should be filled,
compacted, fertilized, seeded and mulched to re-establish vegetative growth
ASAP.
6. Soil amendments are to be incorporated at the end of the site development
process to prevent sediment from entering the stormwater facility.
7. The stormwater facility should be planted and mulched immediately after
amending the soil to stabilize the site as soon as possible.
8. Plant materials for the stormwater facility must meet all NCDENR
Stormwater BMP manual requirements and are specified in accordance with
these recommendations.
9. Verify any plant material substitutions in writing with the Landscape
Architect, if necessary.
10. Estimated optimal planting dates for stormwater plant materials are March
through April and September through October.
11. Any chemicals used in and around aquatic plants shall be labeled "For
Aquatic Use."
12. A one-time, initial application of fertilizer is allowed to help establish plant
materials. No portion of "wet aquatic plantings" should be fertilized after the
initial installation required for establishment.
13. No herbaceous or weed removal other than by hand is allowed in the
stormwater area.
14. Establishment procedures, such as control of invasive weeds, animal and
vandal damage, mulching, watering and jute mesh protection replacement,
shall be implemented to the extent needed to ensure plant survival.
15. Plant material shall be guaranteed for a period of two years from the date of
acceptance.
16. At the end of the first year and again at the end of the two-year warranty
period, all plants needing replacement must be replaced.
